That seems to be the consensus of a little facebook conversation I initiated today when I learned that Beyonce had allegedly lip-synced the Star Spangled Banner at the Inauguration.
To my surprise, many of my friends, who are staunch defenders of live performance, also staunchly defended Beyonce, indicating that the practice of lip syncing in tough performance conditions is common and acceptable.
I’m not sure they’ve changed my mind (I still think it’s a bit of false advertising), but it has made me think. Specifically:
I wonder if the response would have been different if I’d changed my statement to: “BeyonceThe Marine Corps Band lip-syncedfake-played the Star Spangled Banner at the inauguration. Discuss.”
